FREE HIGHER EDUCATION PROJECT FOR ORPHAN /POOR / DESTITUTE / DISADVANTAGED DESERING CHILDREN

‘‘Education is the most powerful weapon we can use to change the world.’’

Indian higher education system is growing very fast irrespective of various challenges but there is no reason that these Challenges cannot be overcome. With the help of new-age learning tools, it is easy for country like India to overcome these problems and bring a paradigm shift in the country’s higher education sector. With such a vibrant country with huge population properly educated, the possibilities are endless. If knowledge is imparted using advanced digital teaching and learning tools, and society is made aware of where we are currently lagging behind, our country can easily emerge as one of the most developed nations in the world.

A completed primary education is a basic human right and is necessary for enjoying many other rights. It is transformative and empowering and a means for accessing broad economic, social, political and cultural benefits. Education contributes to building more just societies through reducing poverty and inequalities. No country has ever climbed the human development ladder without steady investment in education.

Unfortunately, close to one lakh students every year  from Tamil Nadu alone are unable to pursue their higher education and drop their educational aspirations before acquiring the skills and knowledge to build lucrative careers.

This is a terrible setback for our country at large. Bank loans for higher education are also not easily available to all students in need. Often, they lose out on good opportunities before they get a loan and if they do get a loan, the financial burden puts them under constant stress while studying.

In many families children need to interrupt school education and look after the remaining family. These children, who are unprepared for the role they must assume, are likely to be abused and rejected and many will respond to these pressures and responsibilities by trying their luck in the cities, where they are likely to join the growing numbers of street children.
The responsibility to better this situation does not lie with the Government or banks alone. It is our collective responsibility to help the future of our country and we need to support our students to ensure that they receive the higher education that they deserve.

We have tie ups with philanthropic  private colleges and universities in Tamilnadu since 2006 , who magnanimously waive tution fee, hostel fee, mess fee exam fees , transportation fees and ensure the students free higher education.

So far more than 300 students have completed higher education employed married settled and placed. Since 2015 Not only from Tamilnadu but we are supporting students from Maharashtra , Madhya Pradesh , Assam , Jharkhand states who are three decades behind Tamilnadu. So far we have secured admission for about 10 students from northern states out of which two have completed education and are now employed.

The average daily wage of a male is INR 100 and for a female is INR 60 in such condition Higher education can only be a imagination for these children especially the tribal children of these states.

In this type of care program those children who had completed their academic education either through INSTITUTIONAL CARE PROGRAM or HOME BASED  PROGRAM with CORA support are being enrolled for higher education such as Technical, Vocational, Professional courses and arts, science, Engineering Degrees. These children are  pursuing their education in institutions where they are being admitted and live in Hostels of those institutions with Full fees waiver of Tution fee, Hostel fees, Mess Fees, Exam fees and with other special concessions till they complete the graduation or post graduation.

Upon receipt of applications for sponsorship CORA social workers field visit the beneficiary house and access the their socio economic backgroung and give a detailed field visit report. Based on the report , academic performance interest and capability of the student the course is recommended to the student at the colleges/ universities.

The social workers and counselors makes field visit to the institutions where the children pursue their education and to the hostel monthly twice routinely to meet their hostel wardens and heads of departments at the institutions and record their progress and assess  their needs and requirements. During  the declared holidays , the children come to  CORA Campus for short stay if they prefer or else they go to their home town.

CORA supports these children with incidental expenses and other miscellaneous expenses. So far since 2006 about 325 children have secured free higher education employed married and settled. Currently about thirty three children are pursuing their higher education.
