The HIV Positive widow women with the viral infection unable to take care of the family and children after their husbands die are considered under this program. The economy of the family is destablised. Hence to make the HIV positive women self dependent we proposed an empowerment program with small micro enterprises that HIV positive widow women can start run and manage and earn an income.
Few Micro enterprises which were profitable were identified in discussion with the beneficiaries such as idly shop, flower vending shop, cycle shop, Mobile clothes pressing , vegetable vending, flower vending, fruits vending, mobile cycle tea shop etc.
CORA selected the beneficiaries having no family income after the death of the head of the household and who are interested in setting up Micro enterprises. Training was given before setting up of the enterprise and follow up was done by the project staff. All beneficiaries were extended a capital to setup the Enterprise. In 2001 – 2002 a one time grant of INR 85,000 was funded by Alternative for India’s Development AID U.S.A. About twenty (20 ) HIV Positive widow women beneficiaries were benefited through this program during 2002
